Let's get it going!
Matchday 15
Venue: Volkswagen Arena
Attendance: 22,045
Result: Wolfsburg 3- SCF 4
Today in Wolfsburg was an important game for both sides. VFL are starting to find a rhythm under Daniel Bauer and SCF are doing the same. The table really does not tell the true talent that both clubs possess. The game started off and it was all SCF, scoring in the 5th minute with a brilliant setup by Suzuki and a great finish from Treu. The home fans hung their heads and expected a long day.
Above Phillip Treu celebrates scoring his 1st goal of the season.
However, VFL would soon equalize with a nice, calm finish from Pejcinovic after a gaff from the Freiburg keeper. All was well again in the Volkswagen Arena.
The rest of the first half, their was not a lot of action at either end of the pitch and it was still 1-1 as both managers tried to figure out how to come out on top in the second half.
2nd half:
Started out with VFL in control though not attacking the channels as much as the pregame conservations would have led you to believe that they would have. However, Pejcinovic got another goal from a brilliant cross and the VFL took the advantage in the 49th minute, 2-1. This lead however did not last long as unfortunately just 7 minutes later a pass into the box had VFL's CB Seelt make a costly error giving SCF a penalty.
Grifo...converted as was expected and the game was once again tied, 2-2. Grifo also became SCF's highest ever goal scorer in the top division, fair play.
Fans from both sides I am sure were anxious about what would happen next as neither side could really put the other away and this led to stupid fouls and individual errors. However, Pejcinovic completed his hat trick with another defensive miscue from the visitors and VFL had the lead again, 3-2, in the 69th minute.
Did not last long though as through a great combination of passes, SCF was able to attack the box and this time Seelt continue his awful performance with an Own Goal. He has done great this season, but was less than inspiring on the day. 3-3 in the 71st minute.
Scherhant then scored for the visitors in the 78th minute and the hosts could not find an equalizer to at least get a point in this one.
Final: VFL 3 SCF 4.
Tough loss for the hosts and Bauer was not happy at all in the post match conference. The attacking prowess is there but will continue to be a fight just to make mid-table if the defensive worries are no fixed either now or during the upcoming window.
A couple of weeks to rest and hopefully come back with some fury to end the season on a strong note!
